The Spartans never fought in a desert, but if they had, you can bet they'd be wearing these shemaghs to keep out the sun and sand. Well, probably not, but now you can beat the heat with your very own Spartan helmet patterned shemagh. Border accents and a repeating Greek helmet design in black stitching add a bit of modern, military style to a classic, Arab desert scarf. Great as a head wrap for keeping both the sun and wind off your face and neck, these tactical scarves also keep sand or dust out of your nose and mouth. The 100 percent cotton fabric makes washing out all the dirt and sand easy. Even if you're not trekking through the desert, this military inspired shemagh makes an excellent fashion accessory or winter scarf. Order Spartan shemagh now!
What is a shemagh?
A shemagh, also known as a keffiyeh, is a traditional type of headdress worn for centuries by Arabs to protect their heads and necks from the punishing sun and sand of the deserts in the Middle East. These often features bright colors and patterns unique to a tribe or region. In the early 20th century, armed forces from the US and Europe quickly realized the utility of this native dress and began issuing them to their troops stationed in the region. Though banned by the US military during the Gulf War, the shemagh was adopted by US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan as a functional way of keeping sand off the face. Nowadays, military shemaghs are found olive drab or khaki, often with black stitching.
